Winona County/City of Winona Emergency Management work with the State of Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management to maintain a Radiological Emergency Preparedness Plan.
A portion of Winona County is considered to be in the 50 mile ingestion planning zone(within 50 miles of the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant).
Planning priorities in the ingestion planning zone are to implement protective actions from any radioactive materials in a release that could potentially contaminate:
- Water supplies
- Food crops
- Livestock
- Ground contamination
